Description

• Perennial
• Gravel root is native to North America.
• It is a clump-forming plant with erect stems and whorls of finely toothed lance-shaped leaves to 25cm long, vanilla-scented when crushed.
• Clusters of small, purplish-pink flowers are borne in domed corymbs from summer to early autumn.
• It is fully hady and prefers moist alkaline soil in sun or partial shade.

Parts Used

• The leaves and flowering stems are harvested in the summer before the buds open and are dried for later use.
• The roots are harvested in autumn and dried for later use.

Medicinal Uses. It is said that

• A tea made from the roots and leaves works especially on the genito-urinary tract and helps treat incontinence in children, cystitis, and inflammation of the urethra.
• It helps treat rheumatism and gout by increasing the removal of waste from the kidneys.
