  • The Chinese Hat plant is native to the Himalayas.
  • It is an upright shrub with arching stems, slender pointed ovate leaves and clusters of orange-red saucer-shaped flowers that attracts butterflies.
  • Plant in full sun to partial shade - it is not particular as to soil pH and very adaptable to both dry and moist growing conditions.
  • It will not tolerate any standing water and can be pruned regularly.

Medicinal Uses. It is said that

  • There are reports to indicate that it is used in traditional medicine.
  • Freshly crushed leaves and shoots are used to treat rheumatism and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as boils, blain and ulcers.
  • The stem and stembark extracts are used to treat dysentery, headaches and hypertension.
  • The leaves are boiled as part of a blood purifying concoction.
